Our President, Michael Shipley, continues to develop an interesting and informative
program for our Annual Winter Conference in Puerto Vallarta. Our Keynote Speaker will be
Dr. Linda B. Buck who shared the 2004 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
(http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/2004/). A Nobel Symposium,
entitled, Olfaction: From Molecules to Networks will include presentations by Dr.
Matthew Ennis, Glomeruli: Dynamic Portal into The Olfactory Brain; Dr. Ben W.
Strowbridge, Synaptic Mechanisms Generating Spatio-temporal Patterns of Olfactory
Information; Dr. Christiane Linster, The Neural Computation of Smell; and Dr. D. Matthew
Wachowiak, Modulation of Odor Codes by Sniffing. In addition, Special Guest Lecturers
include Dr. Tony Scarpa, Director of the NIH Center for Scientific Review, and Dr. James F.
Battey, Director NIDCD. Dr. Scarpa will discuss funding trends at NIH plus new initiatives in
the review process. Dr. Battey, who is also Chair of the NIH Stem Cell Task Force, will
discuss stem cell funding by the NIH. We will keep you updated on the meeting program.

On Thursday morning (January 18th) there will be a City Tour and Shopping excursion for
guests provided by the AACBNC. This should be a fun outing and will acquaint tour goers
with the vibrant city and people of Puerto Vallarta, as well as providing a spectacular view
of Bahia de Banderas (Banderas Bay). The excursion will begin at 8:45 a.m. from the
Westin lobby and will end back at the Westin at about 12:15 p.m. For more information on
this outing please see the "City Highlights and Shopping Tour" heading below under
"General Information & Activities". On the meeting registration form PLEASE indicate the
number of people you anticipate will be going on the city tour so we can begin
transportation arrangements. There is also a description of some other tours that may be
of interest to members and guests in the "Other Optional Tours" section of "General
Information & Activities".

Another highlight of the meeting will be our Friday night banquet at the Café des Artistes in
El Centro (central city). This banquet should be especially memorable for the quality of the
food and the setting in the outdoor garden of the restaurant, as well as the usual
camaraderie with other members, guests, and sponsors. Transportation will be provided

Request a confirmation as part of your reservation. The Westin Resort & Spa
requires a two nights deposit of room and taxes to guarantee the reservation. If

Breakfast and taxes (17%) are not included in the European Plan. If you want the

AIRLINE TICKET INFORMATION

Nota bene: Effective December 31, 2006, all persons traveling by air or sea
to/from the U.S. will be required to have a current passport. This is a change from
prior travel requirements which in many cases allowed travel with a driver's license and
birth certificate. The goal is to strengthen border security and facilitate entry into the
United States for U.S. citizens and legitimate foreign visitors. If desired, review the complete
details.

Airline service to Puerto Vallarta is somewhat limited, therefore seats going and
coming from there are limited. You may want to make your airline reservations
soon. Furthermore, airfares purchased now for the trip from many cities in the U.
S. and Canada to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) may be less expensive than those
purchased later. Seats for low published, companion, or zone fares further limit
availability. Airlines that serve PVR include Alaska, America West, American,
Continental, Delta, and United. Discount and/or zone fares have been obtained
from Continental and American Airlines and that information follows below.

Continental Airlines has provided us with both zone fares and discount fares for
travel to PVR. Discount fares range from 2-15% less depending upon class of
service and published fare type. Zone fares also offer significant savings. The
AACBNC Agreement Code is UDWEZ6 and the Z-Code is ZTRV. The Continental
Airlines Meeting Works Reservation number is 1-800-468-7022, AND you should
get a real live person! Be sure the Z-Code is included in your ticket information.
There is a $10 service fee collected per ticket. You can book online, save the $10
service fee, and get an additional 3% discount on published fares at
www.continental.com. ENTER BOTH our Z-Code and Agreement Code without a
space in the Offer Code Box, i.e., ZTRVUDWEZ6. Travel dates for the discount
fares are January 12-25, 2007.

Discount fares for travel between Jan. 12 - Jan. 27 are also available through
American Airlines by calling Meeting Services at 1-800-433-1790. Our Contract
Booking Authorization Number is A7717AD. The discount should be 5% off an
applicable fare. The percentage discount also can be booked on-line at
www.aa.com. Use the above authorization number as the aa.com discount code.

Delta and American West no longer offer meeting discounts and zone fares.

Puerto Vallarta is in the state of Jalisco and is on Mountain Standard time (GMT –
7 hours).

Westin Resort & Spa is about 5 minutes from Lic Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International
Airport. The Resort does NOT have a shuttle from the airport. Taxi service is
available for about $10 one way. Automobile rentals are available at the airport or
can be arranged for at the Resort. Reservations can be made with Avis, Hertz,
National, Thrifty, Budget, or Dollar Rent a Car. Avis has provided an Avis
Worldwide Discount (AWD) number, D086487, which should get you 10% off the
